Why Perfectionism is Just Anxiety in Disguise

If you’re always chasing the next goal — and never feel like it’s enough — perfectionism might be fuelling your anxiety.


Perfectionism Sounds Like:

  • “I’ll feel better once this is done perfectly.”

  • “If I make a mistake, I’ll be judged.”

  • “Good isn’t enough — it has to be flawless.”

It feels like high standards. But underneath, it’s fear of failure, rejection, or not being enough.


How Perfectionism Triggers Anxiety

  • Overworking and never feeling finished

  • Procrastination due to fear of doing it wrong

  • Panic when you feel out of control


The CBT Reframe

  1. Spot the thought: “If it’s not perfect, it’s not good.”

  2. Ask: What’s the cost of believing this?

  3. Reframe: “Done is better than perfect. Progress matters more than perfection.”
